Sponsored Sports Challenge

On Wednesday 3rd May, we welcomed women’s footballer Bex Rayner from Sheffield United to school. On arrival, she met the children who had raised money for a gold reward.

After, the whole school joined together for an assembly where Bex explained the importance of being an athlete and the hard work it involves alongside her training and nutrition regimes. Additionally, the children enjoyed being able to cheer Bex on as we watched some videos of her in action and witnessed a few of her skills.

Importantly, Bex spoke about the rise of women's football and the importance primary school PE has on the overall wellbeing of a child. Children from all classes asked some fantastic questions to Bex about why she became a footballer, who she has met and the barriers she has faced. Finally, each class got the opportunity to complete some exercises with Bex as she explained how she does these in her training.

Thank you to everyone who donated, as a school we raised a fantastic figure of £2,298.75 which in agreement to the terms and conditions of the events get split between three parties. Therefore, our grand total is a fantastic £1,101 meeting and smashing our targets.

Bex was really pleased she had the opportunity to meet us all at Winkleigh and we wish her all the best in her future carer.
