Welcome to Winkleigh Primary School Web Site

We are a small village school of 152 children, situated on the edge of North Devon . We have a wide catchment area, taking in at least nine villages and hamlets.

Front of School.jpg The school was built in the 1970’s in the ‘open plan’ style.

There are currently 7 classes, Reception to Year 6. All classes are single age ranging in size from 12 to 29 pupils.

We are keen to promote outdoor learning and offer ‘ Forest School ’, an initiative that originated in Denmark . The children have the opportunity to experience Forest School twice during their time at the school, spending half a day per week for at least ten weeks learning from and about environmental issues in Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

We are also keen to promote a healthy life style and offer healthy snack time for mid morning break and healthy school dinners, alongside opportunities during the day to exercise both our bodies and our minds.

We offer a range of extra curricular activities from Choir, football,  multiskills, dance, film club and cookery will start soon. Lunch time clubs include Green Group, Computer club, modelling and chess.

The Pre-School have recently relocated onto the school site in their own ‘Pod’. The children are working alongside our Foundation Stage children for at least one session per week, on creative activities.
