We had a fantastic trip to Morwellham Quay where we had the opportunity to role play what it was like for Victorian children at school. The class could think back to year 3 when they visited Winkleigh’s old Victorian school and made thoughtful connections. The visit down the mine connected our learning of mountain uses and materials and their properties as well as learning about mining jobs for children. They learned about the clothes worn by rich and poor people and tried some on. Finally, as a treat they made chocolate lollies and learned about the first inventions of the time linked with the Victorian chocolate manufacturers Lindt, Cadbury and Fry.
