This week we have introduced a focus on oracy across our subjects. The children have been learning to communicate through the four strands of Oracy: Physical, Linguistic, Cognitive and Social and Emotional. Physically the children think about gesture and posture, tone, clarity of pronunciation, facial expression and eye contact. Linguistically they are learning to use appropriate vocabulary, register, grammar and rhetorical techniques. Cognitively they are conveying meaning and intention, building on the views of others, they are seeking information through questioning and summarising and reasoning by critically examining ideas and views expressed. Emotionally, they are working with others, listening and responding appropriately, learning how to confident and self-assured and taking account of the level of understanding or their ‘audience’.
