Looking at time has been keeping us busy this week. Our maths task on Monday involved making ourselves a clock and we all had a go at making different times to the hour to test our partners. This helped to familiarise everyone with the layout of a clock and to learn what the long and short hands represent. We then progressed to answering questions about the time to the hour such as, ‘what time does the clock show?’ and ‘what time to the hour comes before or after?’.   In literacy we had a look at a story about a very angry cat. Some lovely writing was generated from thinking about what makes us angry and including conjunctions, ‘I get angry when…..because….’

In preparation for the creation of our fruit salads next week, we thought about different fruits and designed our salads, writing instructions for our recipes.

The week was dominated by the two transition days and the children were very excited about spending the time in their new classroom with their new teacher. Judging by the smiles and excitement on their return to Year 1 for the final few days, moving on to Year 2 is going to be a great success!
