PE & Pupil Premium ~ Covid Catch up ~ Financial benchmarking

Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium is an allocation of additional government funding provided to schools to support disadvantaged children. The aim of additional support is to improve progress and exam results for these specific children.  Pupils who are entitled to Pupil Premium funding fall into the following categories; those entitled to free school meals, those looked after by the local authority and the children of armed service personnel.

PE Premium

The government is committed to ensuring that children and young people have access to at least 60 minutes of sport and physical activity per day, with a recommendation of 30 minutes of this delivered during the school day.

The PE and Sport Premium is additional funding allocated to schools that can help to achieve this aim. This additional government funding supports additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of the PE, physical activity and sport offered through the core budgets.

Covid Catch Up Funding

The Covid Catch Up Premium is additional funding given to schools to support pupils to catch up lost time after school closure. This is especially important for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged backgrounds.

Schools should use this funding for specific activities to support their pupils to catch up for lost teaching over the previous months, in line with the curriculum expectations for the next academic year.

While schools can use their funding in a way that suits their cohort and circumstances, they are expected to use this funding for specific activities which will help pupils catch up on missed education.
