About Winkleigh Primary School
Introduction to Our School Prospectus
This statement of intent was compiled by Staff and Governors of Winkleigh School in September 2009
In our School we aim to provide a happy, secure, caring environment in which children will have every opportunity to develop to the full, and where parents will feel welcome.
We want your child to have a sense of achievement, high expectations and self-esteem and that they will learn to be aware of the responsibilities of being part of our School and community.
We offer a broad and balanced curriculum which is effectively planned to enhance the quality of learning for each child and which is rich in rewarding experiences. We want our children to gain independence, not only as learners, but also as developing members of society.
We see our task as a partnership between staff, parents and governors and encourage the involvement of all our families and the wider community in all aspects of the life of the School.
Winkleigh Primary School’s aims and values
- to enable children to achieve high standards in their learning by providing outstanding teaching with high expectations for achievement by all
- to provide a stimulating and challenging curriculum which is enjoyable, relevant and intrinsically rewarding and develops every child’s full potential
- to provide a relaxed and focused environment in which children feel happy, safe, have high aspirations and can develop self confidence, self esteem and emotional well being
- to promote positive behaviour through a system of mutually negotiated class agreements where children learn to respect and value themselves, others and the environment
- to encourage a healthy and active life style through the promotion of healthy eating, exercise and environmental awareness and responsibility
- to explore the rich cultural diversity of the world in which we live by promoting positive experiences that challenge prejudice and encourage wider understanding and tolerance
- to offer a range of creative and artistic experiences (curricular and extra curricular) and involvement in decision making which will enable children to gain independence, not only as learners, but also as developing members of society
- to work to achieve these aims through a close partnership between all our families, other providers and the wider community and to encourage their involvement in all aspects in the life of the school
